Overview

The southern parks of Tanzania offer something very different to the more famous northern parks. While they may not have the majesty of the Serengeti or the notoriety of Ngorongoro, parks such as Selous and Ruaha offer a distinctly more wild, untamed experience.

Our twelve-day safari covers three of southern Tanzania’s most exciting parks, with time in Ruaha, Selous, Mikumi and Udzungwa Mountains.

  • Ruahau2019s position as a middle ground between traditional savannah and woodlands means that it provides unique game-viewing conditions.nnDuring your two day-long explorations of the park, youu2019ll see everything from traditional game such as buffalo, zebra, lions, and elephants to less common sights such as the Kudu, African Wild Dog, and sable antelope.

  • After breakfast, we depart for the Udzungwa Mountains National Park with a picnic lunch. Our drive takes us across an impressive array of landscapes with basket-weavers and other local craftsmen to be found by the side of the road. Dinner and overnight is at our Standard campsite under the canopy of the Udzungwa Mountains rainforest

  • Biodiversity is the buzz word when it comes to the Udzungwa Mountains which house a wild variety of plants and animals. The mountainous terrain is covered in lush rainforest that contain up to 40% of Tanzaniau2019s plant and animal life, many of which are unique to the area. The area supports diverse wildlife, such as elephant, buffalo, big cats, African wild dog, bushbuck and eland, as well as six species of primate including two which are unique to this area.nnAs well as holding great natural beauty and biodiversity, the park is also rich in legend and contains several cultural and historical sites. The World Wildlife Fund is working in this area to preserve the cultural and biological heritage. Visitors can stay at the waterfall lodge, in luxury tented accommodation or a private campsite set up by us so all you need to do is relax and enjoy the scenery.

  • These days are spent walking in the Udzungwa Mountains with its jagged mountain-scapes and waterfalls. Highlights might include sighting the rare endemic Iringa Red Colobus monkey, tracking one of the rare bird species that were only recently discovered and listing the incredible variety of orchids and plants found in the rainforest.

  • After breakfast break camp and head towards the Selous Game Reserve with picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manze Tented Camp.nSelous Game ReservenThe Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest areas set aside for wildlife preservation anywhere in the world, covering approximately 50,000 sq kms. Located around the Rufiji river system, the Selous is a vast area of miombo woodland, swamps, lakes, gorges and plains. Being of such a vast size it is impossible to predict where the wildlife will be at any one time, but the wilderness experience is exceptional

  • Full days exploring the Selous Game reserve, either with picnic lunch or early morning and late afternoon game drives and lunch in the camp, is this flexibility that makes Camping the perfect base for game viewing. Dinners and overnights within Lake Manze Tented
