Each year around the same time, the circular great wildebeest migration begins in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area of the southern Serengeti in Tanzania and loops in a clockwise direction through the Serengeti National Park and north towards the Masai Mara reserve in Kenya. This migration is a natural phenomenon determined by the availability of grazing. The initial phase lasts from approximately January to March, when the calving season begins – a time when there is plenty of rain-ripened grass available for the 260,000 zebra that precede 1.7 million wildebeest and the following hundreds of thousands of other plains game, including around 470,000 gazelles

Itinerary
Pick from your hotel in Zanzibar and drive to Tarangire National Park with picnic lunch box. In 1970, the national park emerged from a former colonial hunting ground. He has a very diverse animal world, not least because of its size, which corresponds to approximately Luxembourg. The park is home to one of the largest elephant populations in the north of Tanzania, but is also home to many other wild animals. With some luck you can spot lions, cheetahs or leopards. The landscape of the park is very diverse. Especially the huge baobab trees, which are located close together in the north-eastern sector of the park, are particularly impressive. After an extensive game drive, you will drop to your lodge for dinner and overnight
After breakfast you start on your way to Serengeti National Park en route you will see grazing zebras, antelopes and giraffes and sometimes some buffalos hiding in the bush. The South Serengeti ecosystem belongs partly to the Serengeti National park and partly to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species. After the game drive, you enter the Serengeti National park and drive to your lodge.
Waking up in the Serengeti is something really special. You will spend this day in central Serengeti, known as the Big Cat Capital of Africa, the Seronera is rich in lion, leopard and cheetah u2013 and people often spot all three in one day of game drives. Look for leopard around the Seronera River, which is home to one of Africau2019s densest populations of the big cats, while lions can often be seen on the kopjes.bSerengeti Plains u2013 the open savanna south of the Seronera River u2013 are prime cheetah territory. Other animals to spot in the areau2019s varied habitats of rivers, swamps, kopjes and grasslands include elephant, hippos and crocodiles in the rivers, buffaloes, impala, topi, jackals and bat-eared foxes.nAfter a pleasant picnic lunch, itu2019s time to drive eastwards to visit another spectacular setting for Tanzaniau2019s wildlife, the famous Ngorongoro Conservation area. On arrival, settle in at the lodge while a tasty, hot dinner is prepared for you. Tomorrow, the wonders of the crater await us.
Today you will have plenty of time to enjoy another true spectacle, Ngorongoro Crater. This is often referred to as a wonder of the world and your early morning game drive shows you why. We will descend 600m into the crater for a wonderful game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater on World Heritage Site holding a permanent population of more than 30 000 animals.nAs only very few of those migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. The Crater is also home to the rare black rhino almost extinct in Tanzania. With a bit of lucky you will see the u2018Big Fiveu2019 during one game drive. You will have your picnic lunch in the crater before commencing your drive back to Arusha.
