It occupies an area of 400 square kilometers and is covered with karst limestone rock formations. Their bizarre shapes have been formed of millennia of wind and rain. The rock formations do resemble a forest made of stone and small ponds dot the area, adding to its beauty. The area can be explored via paths between the formations and many pavilions offer bird's eye views of the area. nYuantong temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Kunming. It has a history of more than 1200 years. It is also the largest monastery in Kunming
