The churches in the Gu00f6reme Open Air Museum are painted using two different techniques. The first is painting directly onto the flattened rock surface, and the second is painting on the rock using secco (tempera) and fresco techniques. The subjects depicted in the church frescoes are taken from the Old and New Testaments and the life of Jesus.
