Overview

The wildlife of Kenya is waiting to be discovered, so take a break from your beach vacation and safari out with us to explore two of our finest national parks. Tsavo East and Tsavo West are famous for their marauding lions, herding elephants and scores of varied animals roaming over their broad savannahs. You’ll be looking for dozens of species on this short, easy 3-day adventure here.

Tsavo East National Park is the largest park in Kenya, and its sparse vegetation makes game spotting more accessible. You may see the unique Tsavo lions whose males lack the familiar big manes. And the elephants are known to roll in the park’s red-dust soil, showing off their bright coats on the way to one of the famous watering holes.

Youu2019ll feel the safari excitement as we rumble over the broad grasslands looking for the larger and smaller wildlife like eland, impala, giraffe, and zebra.nnAfter our first taste of this legendary park, weu2019ll break for lunch and fortify ourselves for more great game viewing during the afternoon. The pace will be relaxed u2013 there will be plenty of time to discover the big game during our 3-day safari.nnAs we track for the wildlife all about us in this massive park, weu2019ll also get to witness one of Africau2019s blazing sunsets.

  • Weu2019ll be up before the sun to watch the dawn illuminate the plains around us. The first wildlife awakens, venturing out into the open savannah as we experience the park coming to life.nnAfter breakfast, weu2019ll venture forth once more in search of hunters and grazers. Weu2019re sure to spot wildlife at Mudanda Rock, a whale-backed formation creating a natural dam. This unique watering hole is a natural draw for elephants and other animals looking for water in this wild and rugged park.nnLater, weu2019ll take the short drive to neighboring Tsavo West. But this jaunt will also be a game drive as we cross from park to park looking for the u201cBig Fiveu201d and the lesser wildlife.nnAt Tsavo West National Park, weu2019ll make a stop at a unique enclosure u2013 the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. This 70 sq. km (27 sq. mi) protected area is home to some 80 black rhino and is one of the few places where one can view these massive but shy creatures.

  • Weu2019ll be up early again to make the most of our day. This is a pre-breakfast exploration of the park, for usu2026 and the wildlife. And weu2019ll all enjoy the deepening colours of the land as the sun burns off the early morning dew.nnLater, after the delicious fortitude of a safari breakfast, weu2019ll strike out for Mzima Springs. This unexpected oasis is fed by crystal-clear waters providing a living habitat for aquatic and land creatures. Its lush greenery stands in marked relief from the rugged plains of the park.nnWeu2019ll step from our 4 x 4 Jeep and take a nature walk under the raffia-lined shores, looking for hippo, crocodile, colourful fish and birds.
