Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park lies alongside the Northern border of Africa’s biggest Game Reserve – the Selous Game Reserve– forming a unique ecosystem. The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the fashionable centrepiece of Mikumi, draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains.

More than 400 bird species were recorded, the lilac-breasted rollers, yellow-throated longclaws and bateleur eagles joined by a host of European migrants during the rainy season.

Itinerary

  • Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Dar es Salaam, followed by a scenic drive through the Tanzanian countryside to Mikumi National Park. Arrive in time for lunch before heading into the park for your first game drive across the wildlife-rich Mkata Floodplain. Look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, and other plains game before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

  • After breakfast, depart for a full-day game drive in Mikumi National Park. Explore the park's diverse landscapes, from open savannah to acacia woodlands, while searching for lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and a variety of antelope species. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park and visit the famous Hippo Pool before continuing your wildlife adventure into the afternoon. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight

  • Start the day with an early morning game drive, offering one final opportunity to experience the park's remarkable wildlife at its most active time. After breakfast, begin the drive back to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the afternoon for drop-off at your hotel, residence, or the airport.
