Edfu is the site of the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus and an ancient settlement, Tell Edfu. About 5 km (3.1 mi) south of Edfu are remains of ancient pyramids.nThe Temple of Khnum was dedicated to the ancient Egyptian deity Khnum , who served as the creator of both men and women deities. In his incarnation as Khnum-hapi, he revived the springs of the Nile every year to bring about the Nile Flood . In addition, his wife Menhit, the city goddess Neptu, and the gods Heka and Neit were worshiped . The open-air temple is located nine meters below street level in the city of Esna in an excavated depression. Stairs lead to the entrance to the temple
