Overview

Day 1: Sofia – Troyan Monastery – Veliko Tarnovo
We’ll drive through the Bulgarian countryside to the Troyan Monastery, famous for its stunning architecture and the miraculous icon of the Holy Mother of God. After exploring, we’ll enjoy a traditional Bulgarian lunch. Then, we continue to Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria’s medieval capital, where we’ll stroll along Samovodska Charshiya and have dinner at a local wine cellar with authentic Bulgarian dishes.
Day 2: Veliko Tarnovo – Tsarevets – Arbanassi – Kazanluk – Plovdiv
Before departure, we’ll visit Tsarevets Fortress, once home to Bulgarian tsars, offering panoramic views of Veliko Tarnovo. Then, we head to Arbanassi, a historic village with preserved houses and churches. After, we visit the UNESCO-listed Kazanluk Tomb, famous for its 4th-century BC frescoes depicting Thracian life. Finally, we continue to Plovdiv, where the Old Town blends 8,000 years of history with cobbled streets, vibrant houses, the Roman Theater, and the Roman Stadium.

Itinerary

  • Tucked away on the foot of the Balkan range mountain, the monastery is one of the most important religious centers through the centuries, dating from the best times of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom! During our visit you will enjoy learning more about the Orthodox Christianity, iconography and certainly the local crafts and arts. Time for lunch at a local Bulgarian traditional cuisine restaurant!

  • The medieval capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom offers a variety of places to to visit. Tzarevetz hill was the fortified citadel from where the Bulgarian dynasties were ruling once the strong empire!

  • The Thracian have been researched deeply lately - with their unique culture, traditions and heritage. One of the world UNESCO site is the Thracian Tomb dated 4th-3rd century B.C. presenting amazing quality of the artworks - frescoes uniquely showing the skills and knowledge of those ancient masters.
