• Explore Negombo's beaches and visit the fish marketnA couple of miles south of the beach, Negombo Town offers an interesting introduction to coastal Sri Lankan life, with a lively fish market, a dash of olde-worlde colonial charm and hundreds of colourful wooden boats.

• Visit the ancient city, including the Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanwelisaya, and other historical sites.

• Travel to Anuradhapura, the first capital of ancient Sri Lanka.

• The Polonnaruwa ruins are formed by unique stupas, well-preserved temples, and harmonious looking buddha statues. The temple complex of Polonnaruwa has one big advantage, it's fairly small compared to Anuradhapura. This ensures that you can easily explore it by bicycle.

• Head to Sigiriya and climb the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress.nExplore the ancient rock fortress and its stunning frescoes.nnSigiriya is one of Sri Lanka's most famous historical monuments. Residents call this ancient palace and fortress complex the eighth wonder of the world and it has significant archeology and attracts thousands of tourists annually. This is probably the most visited tourist destination in Sri Lanka.

• In the afternoon, visit the nearby Pidurangala Rock for panoramic views of Sigiriya.nnPidurangala Rock is an incredible 360-degree viewpoint located opposite the world-famous Sigiriya Lion Rock. Hiking to the top is possible for both of these rocks, but hiking at dawn to the top of Pidurangala Rock is a real adventure. You get a good view of Lion's Rock itself.

• Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.nA sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2 ) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues.

• The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship, where the left Canine tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. The temple which is venerated by thousands of local & foreign devotees and tourists daily was named as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1988.

• Royal Botanic Gardens or simply Peradeniya is one of the most beautiful gardens in Sri Lanka located near the city of Kandy. This garden is widely popular for its stunning collection of orchids. In the central province of the country, Royal Botanic Gardens sprawls across 147 acres at 460 meters above sea level.

• Drive back to Negombo.nIf time allows, enjoy some beach time.
